Help with Badger SQL for iPhone and iPad.
Email support@lonebadger.tech with your iOS version, the app version (Settings › About) and what happened. Please don't send passwords.
Connecting
- Azure SQL: use
yourserver.database.windows.net, port 1433, and enter a database name. Connections are always encrypted. - Local or on-premises SQL Server: use the server's host name or IP and its TCP port. Named instances need their TCP port, since the SQL Browser service isn't supported. If the server uses a self-signed certificate, turn on Trust Server Certificate.
- Paste a connection string: tap + › Paste Connection String and paste the ADO.NET string from the Azure portal.
“Blocked by the Azure firewall”
Azure SQL only accepts connections from allowed IP addresses. Tap Add to Firewall to sign in to Azure and add your current IP. Your account needs permission to change the server's firewall (for example, the SQL Server Contributor role). Remove rules later from Edit › Firewall Rules.
Microsoft Entra ID sign-in
- Badger SQL detects which Microsoft Entra directory your Azure SQL server belongs to. If sign-in picks the wrong directory, enter the Tenant ID on the connection.
- “Need admin approval”: your organization requires an administrator to approve Badger SQL. The app shows a link to send to your IT administrator; once they approve, sign in again.
- The Azure SQL server needs a Microsoft Entra admin, and your account needs a database user, before Entra logins work.
Voice input
Tap the microphone on the query editor and speak. Say punctuation and operators: “select star from customers where city equals quote Seattle quote”, “comma”, “open paren”, “greater than or equal to”, “new line”. Table and column names from the current database are recognized, so “customer id” becomes CustomerID. Voice input needs on-device speech recognition for English.
Saving queries and history
Use More › Save Query (⌘S) to keep a query; More › Query Library (⇧⌘L) shows saved queries and your history. Scripts with GO separators run batch by batch, and Run Current Statement (⇧⌘↩) runs just the statement under the cursor.
Transactions
The results bar shows how many transactions are open on the tab (@@TRANCOUNT). While one is open the tab turns orange; tap the count to commit or roll back.
Syncing connections
Turn on Sync to my devices for a connection to store it in iCloud Keychain. iCloud Keychain must be on in iOS Settings on each device.
Privacy
